Mens grooming is just as important as anyones. Guys are just as picky, if not more, when it comes to how they look. They just hide it better than most. We hear it ALL in the salon and are happy to help with all your grooming needs.
Do you know the difference between shears, a razor, and clippers when it comes to your haircut ?? Theres more to your cut than just saying a 2 on the sides and finger length on top. Clippers cut straight out from the head, and follow the natural shape of your head. (sadly most heads aren’t a perfect shape, this will show in the cut as well) Shears allow you to create a visual shape and create the look you want separate from whats underneath. Pulling the hair away from the head with a comb and cutting also creates a bit of a bevel softening the edge of the hair and thus creating a longer lasting grow-out. Razors are used both as a straight edge as well as with a guard for creating fine detail and close tapering as well as pushing the hair where you want it and altering texture. Whether you choose a stylist or a barber, a skilled artist will choose the best tools for your head shape, hair texture and desired style.
How often do you get your haircut ? Do you always go to the same place and person ? Consistency and Loyalty with your appointments will keep you looking your best. Schedule cuts anywhere from 10-14 days for a “never looks like you got, or need, a cut” look; up to 4 weeks for regular style maintenance. You can come in for a clean up between appointments to have your hairline, neck and sideburns trimmed so your never looking too shaggy.
Balance, Proportion, Height, Round, or Square …. We look at so many different things to determine what is your most flattering hairstyle. We aim to create balance in the distance from jaw line to bridge of nose and then to top of head / hair height. This may mean a beard, and how long or full or no beard, height or fullness to the hair on top or sides or not at all. Where are you trying to draw the eye or detract it from. We are visual people by nature.
Waxing and skin care are important to everyone. Skin is skin. Hair is hair, especially unwanted hair !! Brows should be waxed. They won’t look girlie if they are done right. If there is hair in your ears, in your nose, that can be waxed too. Facials and or good home skin care, matter too. You may not be applying makeup and looking for perfection, but in the same your skin is on full display. Cleanse out those pores and exfoliate the dry skin. Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize. Think about the sun and its damage causing rays. Sunscreen is your friend for healthy skin and no sunglasses tan lines !!
Wear Sunscreen !!
Do you remember the commencement speech essay turned song from 1997 ?? It had some good advice !! Wear sunscreen was the opening and ending line for good reason.
“If I could offer you one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advise has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience…”
Now that it’s warm out again it’s time to enjoy all the outdoor activities! Sun care is important all year round but extremely so now. Always be sure you are covering up your head with either a hat or some spf. anything that is a physical barrier. Your scalp is skin. If you can see your scalp through your hair, than even more so protect that head. As for your hair, it is dead, there is no spf in hair products, it is a physical barrier, similar to a heat protectant. You don’t want to burn your scalp, damage your hair follicles, potentially hindering new growth, or burn your existing hair off by drying it out and it breaking off. Both of these options could leave you bald against your will.
Wear Sunscreen !!
